PSG Edges Marseille on Penalties to Claim French Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the season-opening cup on fourteen separate occasions.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the showdown featuring the French league winners and the French Cup holders after the French winger opened the net early on.

Yet, the southern French side struck twice late to seize a shock lead. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial leveler in the final seconds to force the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 shootout victory.

The record winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the past thirteen years.
